Professor Yamamoto teaches at the Graduate School of Political Science
at Waseda University. Prior to arriving at Waseda, he was a professor
at Hitotsubashi University for sixteen years, where he obtained his PhD
and M.A. He specializes in Newspaper media, Journalism and the History
of Intelligence. His extensive research at the U.S. National Archives
resulted in the discovery of the U.S. Radio Propaganda proposals and
scripts targeting Japan from Saipan at the end of the World War II.

Professor Yamamoto has published many books on Journalism, Mass media,
and War intelligence in Japanese. In 1995, he received an Abe Fellowship
from the Center for Global Partnership for his research entitled,
"MacArthur's Media: Censorship in Occupied Japan." (List #4)
As part of the fellowship, he spent one year doing research at the
University of Maryland and elsewhere in the Washington DC area.
Professor Yamamoto and a team of researchers have created the
Occupation-Period Magazine Database, an article-level guide to the
Gordon W. Prange Magazine Collection.
Professor Yamamoto has received awards from the Japan Society of
Publication Studies and the Japan Academy of Advertising (List #3).
He is a member of the Japan Newspaper Society and the Japan Society
of Publication Studies.
